About 350 kilometers from Bangalore, in the state of Karnataka, is Hampi, the city of ruins. With more than 500 monuments and attractions, Hampi draws many visitors each day. Hampi, a well-known UNESCO World Heritage Site, perfectly balances history with adventure, two contrasting types of travel. A person can either choose to immerse themselves in the city's fascinating history or engage in more thrilling adventure sports.
.
Hampi is a backpacker's paradise because it is surrounded by 500 historic sites, stunning temples, lively street markets, bastions, Treasury buildings, and the fascinating relics of the Vijayanagar Empire. A favorite method to view the city from the perspective of its past is to visit Hampi, an open museum with more than 100 venues to explore.
.
The terrain is just as intriguing as the ruins themselves. It is notable for its enormous, exquisitely carved temples, especially the Virupaksha Temple, which is devoted to the imperial patron deity. It is situated on the banks of the Tungabhadra River. The old aqueducts, canals, military barracks, and stables are still visible here. In 1986, Hampi was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
