This is the second part of an Oral History video I made with my father back in Nov of 2002. My intention is to post-produce these with pictures, graphics, and music. He was the first generation of Barrett's born in the USA. His story is the story of building a life on the North Side of Chicago, one job at a time. He worked delivering the Austin News; for Continental Can; for Meyercord, was in the Air Force, worked at a soybean plant, for Jewel Foods, ending up with 20+ years as a Union Janitor and Fireman (boilers) for the City of Chicago. He worked oddball jobs like on the water cribs in Lake Michigan when school was out, and any number of sideline jobs (cleaning up Illinois Tamale on North Ave. at night, janitorial services at Montessori on Austin Blvd, etc., etc.). He lead his family of 7 through the 60's, 70's and 80's. When this was recorded in 2002, he was 71 years old and had been retired for about 7 years. He lived until 1981, when cardiovascular disease claimed him.
