The Jak and Daxter Retrospective

With their contract with Universal Interactive fulfilled after finishing the Crash Bandicoot trilogy, Naughty Dog were ready to enter the next generation of consoles with a clean slate. But between the complexity of the PlayStation 2, rising development costs, concerns over ownership of their work, proprietary software tools, and a playerbase hungry for more mature games, their aspirations for a completely open world 3D platformer weren't guaranteed to succeed.
