【It looks like…】
Verb/い adj (plain form)　+ようです
な adj / Noun+の、ではない、だった、ではなかった +ようです
この、その、あの、こんな、そんな、あんな　+ようです

【1. ～ようですsimilar to ～らしいです 】
This usage is very similar to the usage of らしいです and it can be replaced. ようですis more based on objective judgements rather thanらしいです expresses intuitive conjecture.


かわいい声（こえ）が聞（き）こえます。
子供（こども）がいるようです。

自動車（じどうしゃ）がたくさんとまっています。
事故（じこ）があったようです。

外（そと）は寒（さむ）いようです。

【2. ～ようです Euphemistic expression】
The use of ようです makes the expression vague and less definite even when I can be asserted possitively.

彼（かれ）は漢字（かんじ）が読（よ）めないようです。
彼（かれ）はパーティに行（い）きたくないようです。

申（もう）し訳（わけ）ありませんが、
お電話（でんわ）が遠（とお）いようです。

【3. ～ようです Similie】
ようです is also used to express situations and properties figuratively.

雪（ゆき）のようなアイスです。
雪（ゆき）のように白（しろ）い肌（はだ）です。
今日（きょう）は寒（さむ）くて冬（ふゆ）のようです。
