Take Bielle distillery on Marie Galante in Guadeloupe, one of the biggest, baddest rhum agricole producers out there. Now imagine you skipped their normal, creole-style column stills and made for a totally new product by installing some full-blown pot stills in the back. What kind of monster would you end up with?
Famed Italian distiller Gianni Vittorio Capovilla (by way of Luca Gargano) basically did exactly that. The result is the Rhum Rhum series - this PMG (56% ABV, probably bottled in 2019) is unaged except for a rest in glass. And it's... probably the softest, most refined agricole-style rum I've ever tried. Extremely difficult to wrap one's head around, a bit embarrassing to try to describe, and nigh-impossible to score: I'm saying 85?/100 and I mainly mean that question mark as room to go up.
Thanks once again to u/SpicVanDyke for this sample! (You can read his review of this stuff at / capovilla_rhum_rhum_pmg_rhum_blanc_agricole ) And while I'm at it, thanks to my viewers and subscribers! I hope this spunky little channel is proving useful here and there.
