A virtual roundtable, hosted by Barry Greenberg, PhD, explored the current landscape of Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis and barriers to timely testing and care. Dr. Greenberg was joined by Monique Nugent, MD, MPH; Van Ta Park, PhD, MPH; and Julie Zissimopoulos, PhD.
In this segment of the roundtable, Dr. Greenberg further examines how systemic barriers persist even after patients may be able to secure testing and diagnosis for Alzheimer’s disease. Access to genetic counselors may limit patients’ ability to interpret test results, and the time demands associated with Alzheimer’s disease treatment create further burden on patients and caretakers. Dr. Nugent identifies a few short-term solutions, such as telehealth, that may reduce barriers to Alzheimer’s care but emphasizes the need for long-term policy solutions to help patients.
