SVBony SV28 25-75x70mm Test Drive B Roll

I was introduced to scoping optics since I was a child when my dad bought a cheap monocular if 10x magnification that was surprisingly good and was obsessed with it to take videos and pictures with it. Unfortunately the cheap quality caused it to fall apart after years of use and it was no longer usable one day.

I was reminded of monoculars and scopes again recently and decided to get a massive upgrade over that cheap junk and purchased myself a competent 75x max zoom spotting scope by SVBony. I was so excited to start using this scope as soon as it arrived that I made this entire B Roll for it with half of my day.

I'm extremely satisfied with this spotting scope and it has really impressed me with it's magnification and optic quality. When looking for a significant upgrade over our old 10x cheap monocular, I was hoping to get one of at least 50x or idealy 80x or 100x, but I came to realise that scopes of those magnifications are very rare, and they'd be a lot less portable if there are.

This SVBony 25-75x scope has one of the highest magnfiication scopes I've seen and although I was hoping for something even crazier, after extensive testing with this scope I found that maybe 25x is a great minimum focus distance, any larger then it would be a very inconvenient magnification to frame in objects to create a good composition. Then being able to zoom in 3 times further is already a sufficiently crazy magnfiication.

However at 75x, the resulting image was way darker, probably by up to 3 times less light for the 3 times extra magnification, so zooming in isn't always ideal, and the 25x is great for most things already.

The scope handle sharpness impressively well, way more so than our old monocular junky my dad had last time. The only bottleneck for the sharpness is the chromatic abberation which can be seen most obviously as purple fringing in all of the shots with the scope, so that's something to keep in mind. But personally I don't really mind it as impressive visibility is my number 1 priority.

The scope's build quality is great, the scope, tripod, everything feels sturdy, solid, sleek and smooth, complete with weather sealing, there's really nothing much to complain about. The weight of the device is also surprisingly light, I would've expected the size of the scope to contribute more weight, but it only weighs about 700g altogether and the construction material consists of a lot of high quality plastic, so it's really a very fun, useful, capable and portable piece of kit to bring around with you in my opinion, and I can't wait to put it to more tests in the future.

One thing I didn't expect when using this lens is operating it with a phone camra attached apparently looks better than trying to view it in person for me. Using only 1 eye to view through a scope isn't the most comfortable experience, and sometimes it contribute to blurriness from the strain of combining 2 distinctly different vision together. Eye movement when viewing also contributes to darkening of the image and always require eye position adjustment from each eye movement, and I much prefer operating the scope with a phone attached to it as the entire field of view of the phone's view is visible at all times and eye movement never affects when trying to see different parts of the frame.

Moreover, further testing with the lens at night produced some absolutely insane photos that both the scope and the human eye or combined can never be able to capture. Night mode with phone vision through this scope can produce the most impossible looking images, and I feel confident trying astrophotography with this lens due to the stellar performance with my iPhone 14 Pro Max setup combo. However the heavy chromatic aberration would probably bring some softness to the image though when taking it to astrophotography.

Anyhow, this my single most satisfying purchase I've ever made in my life, and I would love to infest in even better spotting scopes as I progress more with this hobby.
