Nimbus Cart are four kids from the nineties who spew their guitar sound and witty songs full of joie de vivre across the concert floor like an infectious cloud! Singer Janis strums her electric ukulele with the cool of Nico from The Velvet Underground and switches effortlessly to soulful vocals, as if any moment could be their last. Her band consists of guitarist Steven Govaere, Eduard Lathioor on bass, and Lukas Carlier on drums. Nimbus Cart is the fusion of these kindred spirits from Ghent and delivers emotional, dark ballads that unexpectedly morph into sizzling rock songs. From unruly, angular rhythms to guitar salvos and bass rhythms drenched in a Dinosaur Jr. tinge, riding a 70s psychedelic high, but with a more powerful kick and a flute that doesn't care about anything. Singer Janis Vancoppenolle is a frontwoman you won't forget: unfiltered, deeply lived, and brutally honest about everything she disagrees with! You think it, she sings it! Gritty punk riffs, untamed drums, and bass lines that will knock you down.
About the track:
A punkrock anthem about resilience. Driven by distorted riffs and relentless drums, it captures the chaos of falling, rising, and pushing through the endless rat race.
Janis wrote during a burnout as she was tired of the constant criticism people were giving about her personality, as it seemed never to be good enough. With Rather, she makes a statement: she’d rather be her own weird self than conform to what others call normal. A song that grates and confronts: about self-acceptance and rebellion.

Press:

I was running around
Giving attention
To things that people say
What they would mention
And I erased me
I shrinked me
I am human
And I exist
There were some things I couldn’t resist
I have flaws
Round of applause
And while drowning
I was seen
I couldn’t be associated with people that are mean
Yes, they’re so obscene
Yes, they’re so obscene
I got tired of my own apologies
It’s time for me to be who I want to be
Finger to the ones that are bothered by me
It’s to me that I address
to feel worthy
Whether I’d be normal
Rather I’d be weird
Rather I’d be me
Whether I’d be free
Whether I’d be normal
Rather I’d be weird
Rather I’d be real
Whether I’d be free
I did not have the speed to outrun myself
I thought I wasn’t worth the friends
and I started hiding, I didn’t come out
And I thought
I fought
Consumed by opinions that refer to me
Assuming I’m not being who I ought to be
Appearing as expected causes distress
Yeah, feeling different than the others is worth less
I am used obeying to their certain ideas
I am able to act as I please
I stand up
I speak up
Days passed by and I felt more suppressed
It is no wonder that people get depressed
I'm craving to the day that I’d be proud of me
About who I am, even tho you won’t agree
Whether I’d be normal
Rather I’d be weird
Rather I’d be me
Whether I’d be free
Whether I’d be normal
Rather I’d be weird
Rather I’d be real Whether I’d be free
