Americans are bombarded with information every day on social media—but is that information trustworthy? Misinformation and disinformation, sometimes called "fake news," can spread quickly across online platforms raising questions about the responsibility of users and platforms themselves--- What is the role of social media companies in regulating misinformation? Information could be verified for accuracy, but who checks the fact-checkers? Some individuals believe independent fact checking is the way to preserve the integrity of online discourse, while others fear that biased fact-checkers will unfairly silence dissenting voices.
