Rishi Sunak has confirmed the Birmingham to Manchester leg of HS2 will be scrapped as he promised to reinvest the £36billion saved in other transport projects.

The Prime Minister said HS2 was the “ultimate example of the old consensus” and the economic case for the project had “massively been weakened”.
