Thick blood can be a silent killer from the blood clots that are formed. Every year over two hundred thousand people are hospitalized from blood clots. When these are initiated from blood that is too thick the ultimate treatment always involves using 'blood thinners' and phlebotomy to drain off excess blood.
Remember...blood thinners do not actually thin blood but interfere with the body's clotting cascade making clots more difficult to form. They will not stop your blood from becoming thicker.
For many people going to a hospital or the American Red Cross is not an option. There are issues with being accepted, transportation, cost, scheduling, insurance, and etc.
For these people a DIY (do-it-yourself) method might be a solution.
For me, the ARC would not accept donors with thick blood at the time and hospitals were charging $480 for tapping off a pint or two (I had no insurance at the time).
This is a descriptive vid of how I treat my condition of thick blood. I could find no other vids that addressed how to withdraw large quantities of blood therapeutically.
My biggest problem is that most phlebotomy systems will clot in a few minutes yielding very little blood draw. The only answer I could find was to employ a negative pressure to a containment vessel (pickle jar. This method has worked 100% of the time when I used it.
I would suggest starting with no more than a pint withdrawal the first time. Expect the usual feelings of weakness the next couple of days. Your body will take at least four days to replenish the electrolyte (clear) portion of your blood.
If you do two pints, just double the time periods.
Expect anyone you consult with to show a look of horror as you describe what you want to do...that is natural because they never dreamed it could be done at home.
I expect to get a lot of criticism on technique and that my instruments have not been autoclaved but these are usually from people that are 'thinkers' and not 'do-ers'.
Some people might have some predisposing condition that might preclude this method (like fear, smile) but that is for you to decide.
My docs don't know what causes my blood to produce excessive red blood cells. My treatment is phlebotomy.
To the few people that really need to treat thick blood AND cannot use medical centers this could be a lifesaver.
DISCLAIMER: I am not a MEDICAL doc and do not suggest in any way that I am qualified to give advice...you are on your own.
