What if a mysterious glowing screen from the 1980s could show you real-time radiation from inside the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone?
We brought that idea to life — by reviving the Elektronika MS6205, a rare plasma display used across the USSR, and turning it into a fully working Chernobyl radiation monitor.
It now pulls live data from 25 remote detectors around the Zone, adds weather and time, and presents it on a red-glowing gas matrix with a 200V ignition voltage — just like in old control rooms.
Powered by an ESP32 microcontroller and connected via Wi-Fi, it combines remote data from SaveEcoBot’s open API with a built-in Geiger counter and modern sensors. All of this is packed inside a custom 3D-printed black cube with a contrast acrylic screen.
We also show how this forgotten tech works, how to unlock its hidden character set, and why it’s so rare today.
If you're into retro electronics, radiation tracking, or just want to build something no one else has — this is your episode.
