Kitty Winter Gipsy Nova - Feel It (1978) HQ Soul/Jazz-Funk (Germany)

The fluid boundaries between jazz and Brazilian folklore have existed for a long time, not just by Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz, or even Baden-Powell. And the fence between pop and jazz is getting lower and lower. And right there, between these three stylistic elements stands Kitty Winter Gipsy Nova, this highly interesting group released its first LP in 1978 .

Kitty Winter (vocals) comes from a deeply musical Gypsy clan that also produced such well-known jazz musicians as her brother Zipflo Reinhardt and her cousin Bobby Falta. Kitty grew up with music, singing, and jazz. As early as 1970, at the age of 18, she won first prize in a singing competition.

Kuno Schmid (keyboards) is the spiritus rector and driving force of the group. He made his first recording in 1972 – he was 17 at the time. In 1973, he was one of the prizewinners at the Baden-Württemberg Jazz Competition, organized by Süddeutscher Rundfunk. In 1974, he released his second album under his name. He plays in a quartet with Markus Stockhausen. Kuno Schmid composed most of the tracks on this LP.

Martin Spiegelberg (guitar, flugelhorn) has been playing guitar since he was 12; he then took double bass lessons and a few years later, took up trumpet and flugelhorn, playing with various traditional and modern groups. His particular passion is plying bossa nova guitar. He is responsible for the composition and lyrics of two tracks on this LP.

Willi Gärtner (bass) initially played cello and viola da gamba before becoming interested in jazz and switching to electric bass. He won a special prize as a bassist at the Nagold Competition. He studied English in Stuttgart and wrote most of the lyrics on this LP.

Ringo Hirth (drums, percussion) has played in various rock and jazz bands, including the Pony Poindexter Quartet. He has participated in radio and television recordings both at home and abroad.

The very first track, "Feel It", which is the title of Kitty Winter Gipsy Nova debut album, is played and composed in a funky rock style. It demonstrates the joy these musicians have playing with such impressive precision. Feel It is an excelent Soul/Jazz-Funk album, it's hard to choose a favorite! Reissued by Vivid Sound in Tokyo for the Japanese market.
