In this episode, Josh tries his hand at survival... while reviewing the Hollyland Lark 150, wireless microphone system. He discusses comparisons with the Rode Wireless Go and tests the sound, range, and other important aspects of the Hollyland. Please note all Rode comparisons reference the original Rode Wireless Go as we shot this about a week before Rode's update announcement.
A few notes, in the Rode test, while I don't give any conclusions in the video, I think that they more or less sound the same. Some minor differences certainly but nothing all that major. So I asked a friend who is an audio mixer for major TV shows, films, and documentaries. His analysis is as follows, though I did not tell him which microphone is which, so I adde the microphone name to his descriptions:
"The Rode, seems to pick up more of the cloth/movement noise, and is subject to some phasing...likely due to its polar pattern. It's brighter though, and more quickly resembles the actual environment.
The Hollyland is perhaps a bit more dull, but also seems more consistent. Even with movement, the response stays even, and I feel like it can be EQ'd to be as present as the other mic."
For the built in vs lav test, I didn't send it to him, but I also felt like they were fairly interchangeable. I thought there was perhaps a bit more bass in the lav, but nothing major either.
And YES, I KNOW I have a typo on the end card... I was still fighting dehydration and hunger while editing the video.
