Unfortunately for you DSG7 owners, there are very frequent production failures of the mechatronics, which usually only start to manifest themselves after a long continuous drive of approx. 300 km followed by an emergency driving mode. The DQ381 DSG gearbox has been designed as a smaller and lighter version of the DQ500, significantly improving fuel consumption and reducing CO2 emissions. It is installed in many VW group vehicles with front-wheel drive and 4x4 drive, such as the most problematic VW Tiguan II, Škoda SuperB III, Škoda Kodiaq, Seat Ateca or Volkswagen Passat. Even though there has been a significant improvement in reliability – there are still manufacturing defects in components that will render the vehicle inoperable – especially the transmission mechatronics.

The DQ381 mechatronic fault is extremely common. When a malfunction occurs, it will be manifested by the loss of odd or even gears and information on the instrument panel about the limitation of the transmission. Usually it is enough to stop the car for 15 minutes and it will go again without a problem for a few hundred kilometers. When identifying the problem with diagnostic scan tools, P1735 / P1736 clutch position sensor trouble codes are stored, which can be cleared initially, but will always return until the problem is resolved.
