ChinnyVision - Ep 571 - Copter 271, The Last Commercial GX4000 Game

Copter 271 was advertised to be released for the Amstrad GX4000 in early 1991, but the copyright date is September 1991 which means by the time it was duplicated, it finally made it out in time for Christmas of that year. A time when the console was discounted to 390 Francs in France and about 40 quid in the UK. How many copies did Loriciels think they would sell?

The game is a top down helicopter based shoot-em-up where aliens have invaded the earth. Initial impressions are good with lots of colours and use of the hardware. But then the issues become apparent. Think SWIV or countless Konami games.

This is one of the few GX4000 exclusive titles. The other that springs to mind is Burning Rubber. So should have been a big deal for owners of the system. Presumably no ports to other systems because games like this really needed a licence attached by this stage.

Did this ever make it to the UK? Well it contains English so that must have been the intention. How many they actually sold I have no idea. Still the game got 81% from Amstrad Cent Pour Cent. So it must be good, right? [inserts that Star Wars meme here] Right?
