Segmented rings all glued up into the raw shell form, then attached to an axle.
I had to improvise a way to attach the axle hubs to the shell as I didnt have any plywood wide enough to make 20 inch+ discs, so I paper glued temporary support blocks insde the edges of the shell.
Then used used the router table to machine the outside, clean up tearout with a fine set sharp blockplane, start sanding with 60 grit, raise the grain using water based floor sealer
There is still plenty of sanding and finishing to do. I use floor sealer, tough (very tough) water based sealer which will be wet sanded then buffed and polished with aluminium oxide polish
The drum is 20 inch diameter, 9 1/2 inches deep
It will have a goatskin or calfskin head and an internal tuning system built in
