Duncan's bio is full of professional achievements - yet, there's a deeper story behind it all, which he shares in our conversation on "Unsilence Grief"... the loss of one of his sons, Lachlan. The tidal waves of emotions, dealing with so many different layers of grief, the sole-parenting of his 4 children, throw Covid in the mix - this conversation goes deep.
About Duncan Schieb:
Duncan Schieb brings a deeply personal commitment to his role as Head of Development at "A Friend's Place". Raised in the western NSW town of Coonamble, Duncan grew up surrounded by community spirit, hard work, and the resilience of country life - qualities that have shaped him throughout a career spanning regional Australia, the UK, Hong Kong, Asia, and New York.
In 2020, Duncan’s life changed forever when his son Lachlan - Oscar’s identical twin - died suddenly. This profound loss reshaped his understanding of grief and strengthened his dedication to ensuring no child or family has to navigate grief alone. Supporting his children through their heartbreak remains his greatest challenge and deepest motivation.
Since returning to Australia and settling on the Northern Beaches, Duncan has immersed himself in community life. He leads the Manly Bombers Auskick program, coaches junior girls’ footy and local cricket, umpires with his son Charlie, and serves as President and patrol member at South Narrabeen Surf Life Saving Club. He also mentors young people through the Raise Foundation, giving him valuable insight into the pressures today’s youth face.
Across 25 years, Duncan has worked on major fundraising, property, media, and storytelling projects, helping charities raise more than $200 million. But above all, he is a devoted dad to Charlie, Matilda, Molly, and twins Lachlan and Oscar - the heart behind his work.
Driven by compassion and community spirit, Duncan is committed to expanding the impact of "A Friend's Place" and ensuring grieving children always have someone in their corner.
