How to make a magic wand in 4 easy steps - (DIY Harry Potter-like wand)

Hi witches and wizards out there!

In this video I will show you, how I make a carved wooden wand from a stick in 4 easy (not necessarily quick) steps:
1. Carving a basic shape.
2. Sanding, sanding, watering, sanding (to get it really smooth).
3. Staining (if you want to look any light wood darker, I use walnut-stain here), polishing.
4. Oiling for a great surface and highlighted details.

This video will not show the greatest results but important steps if you are new to carving wood.

I think this build ist also great for a kid's birthday, then just carve, sand and oil oder better wax the wand, you won't have any drying time then. If you don't do to fancy things, a wand should be done in less then one our.

With Staining and oiling it takes much longer because you have to let it dry.

Materials used in this video:
basic carving-knife set (but any sharp knife will do the job)
grinding sponges in 60, 100, 150, 200 (grit paper does the job as well!)
a saw, a file, a clamp (You don't neccessarily need this, deepends on what you want to make)
an old sponge, gloves or something to protect your hands from stain and oil
stain - in this case I used water based pulver from clou - Nussbaum (waltnut), because I like darker wood. There are many other stains out there like mahagony, teak, oak, ebony... just look for a wood that you like!)
wood oil (if you don't want to buy wood oil, you can also use a better cooking oil, but it could happen that your wand starts to smell a bit after a while when the oil gets rancid
steel wool
