It's been a couple weeks now but the ending to Takopi's Original Sin is still on my mind. While it could be argued as slightly rushed, I think the emotional message it left me with was satisfying and cathartic.

The track that plays during the last episode is simple, but haunting and extremely effective. Shizuka has hit rock bottom, with truly no place to go home to and no one to talk to, and finally Takopi recognizes, he doesn't have all the answers to her problems either. Instead, they cherish some precious moments together before Takopi makes his final sacrifice.

I tried to perform this with expression, but still controlled, letting the melody sing for itself. It's tempting to over play some areas but I decided not to, and deliberately didn't add much to the arrangement either. Instead, with a liberal use of reverb and pedal, I think I managed to imitate the chilling effect this scene was originally going for. There are emotional swells where the accompaniment adds more bass, while there are also sudden moments of lightness (e.g. 3:13, 3:34) which must be played with a delicate tone.
