This SAS DHC-8-400 registration LN-RDK crashed on landing at Aalborg Airport (EKYT) after it's right Main Landing Gear (MLG) failed. The flight crew noticed that their right MLG was not locked and the Right MLG light showed "in transit". The crew declared a mayday and lowered the landing gear under it's own weight, however it still did not lock, so the crew ellected to go around and circle to burn off fuel and inform the passengers. The aircraft touched down first on its left MLG then onto the right before it fails and the right propeller strikes the runway and disintergrates (puncturing the fuselage). Luckily the crew had already moved passengers out of the seats adjacent to the engine in case of this eventuality (the engine was not shut down in anticpation of Right MLG failure because there was no QRH checklist item that called for this procedure.) There were only 7 minor injuries and no fatalities. A lucky escape for all on board, the official report commended the flight crew on their actions, they in most cases excelled the checklists and in the absence of some checklist items they had to "improvise" and quite well too.
