Hi everyone it's been a long time since my last video!
A few months ago, my friend Raaid sent me this Jiabaile RC car to play with. Thank you. Jiabaile wasn't a brand I heard of in the past. As the box shows, there are four body choices. Let's unbox it and see what we get for around $25.
It's very well packed. On the top there's the manual in English. I have the BMW M3 body here. I don't love the blue strips, but I must say there are many accurate details. All the body lines are crisp. The paint work of the windows and grills are clean. Front and rear lights are separate pieces. I'm impressed by how well they made this body! I just wish they didn't bother with the blue strips.
The radio is relatively basic, but not bad at all. There's foam grip on the steering wheel. There's a switch to turn on the lights, buttons for max throttle, and on the side steering trim. In the box, we find some cones, a USB cable for charging the battery in the car, and a set of rubber tires. The car came stock with plastic drift tires.
Here's a closer look of the body. This the BMW E46 M3, likely the GTR version based on the look of the arches. At the bottom, we have the power switch and USB-C port for charging the built-in battery inside. The front wheels have an actual suspension system. However, the rear end is rigid. Looks pretty cool right? Despite the small size, the Jiabaile is fully proportional.
Let's remove the body and see what's under the hood. It's a pretty simple process. Undo the screws holding the front and rear diffusers. Conveniently there are no wires dangling from the body. The LEDs are baked into the main board. With the main board covering nearly the entire top part of the chassis, we can't see the drivetrain in there. It's an all wheel drive with locked diffs. That should be fine for a simple drift setup like this. Steering is Mini-Z tie bar style, connected to a tiny servo. That must be the tiniest servo I've ever seen in person. Front suspension is a MR-02 style structs with king pins. I don't know how necessary is the suspension system but it's a nice touch. There's no suspension for the rear, but people have done mods to add one.
Let's turn on the transmitter and the car and see how the electronics feel. It's pretty neat to see fully proportional steering on this 1:43 chassis. Throttle is also fully proportional. Throttle control is actually not bad! It supports brake and reverse. Throttle feels very linear. This car seems like it will do well on a table top like this. Control is good enough. Oh I forgot to mention, brake light is always on, and brightens when brake is applied. Let's turn on all the lights with the switch on the transmitter. The LEDs are pretty bright.
For Mini-z fans out there, here's a direct comparison of a 1:28 car compared to this Jiabaile 1:43. The Subaru is a 94mm MR-03. It's about 50% larger and quite significantly so.
It's time to test drive it on a hardwood surface. I have the throttle set to maximum speed. The car doesn't have a gyro but with an AWD it's not that necessary. My first reaction is that the Jiabaile with the stock drift tires feels similar to a Mini-Z MA-020! Both steering and throttle are responsive. I'd say steering angle is a bit limited, but still okay. I think it's awesome it's doing AWD drifts effortlessly in such a small package.
It may be a good option for city dwellers with limited space, or people without a smooth flat floor to drift on.
Let's see how the car drifts in slow mo. These footages are playing at 25% speed. The rear lights look like they are strobing in slow mo but that's just PWM flicker. If I look at the front very carefully, I can see the suspension in action. I planned to change the plastic tires to the provided rubber tires too, but I didn't want to risk removing the rims.
This is Sammy and thanks for watching!
