Woman Gave $530,000 to Scammers

When COVID-19 restrictions temporarily shut down Mark and his wife, Lori’s, popular bowling alley, Lori says she received a miracle phone call claiming she was eligible for thousands of dollars in federal grant money, but there was a catch. Lori said she needed to send thousands in gift cards to someone claiming to be a federal grant officer named "Ashley" before she could receive her lucky payday. Mark instantly identified this as a scam, but Lori didn’t agree and went behind her husband’s back, secretly sending over a half-of-a-million dollars for nearly two years without ever getting a dime in return. Mark claims Lori still believes she is going to be handed a $1 million suitcase at their front door, so he is going to great lengths to keep Lori from sending any more money. In fact, Mark says to protect his and Lori’s financial future, he has been left with no choice but to apply for conservatorship over his wife, something Lori doesn’t see a reason for. Dr. Phil sits down with Lori and shows her proof she indeed is being scammed -- but will she believe Dr. Phil?
