The BRDM-2 (Boyevaya Razvedyvatelnaya Dozornaya Mashina-2) is a Soviet-designed armored reconnaissance vehicle that has played a significant role in military operations since the 1960s. Built as a successor to the BRDM-1, the BRDM-2 was developed to provide enhanced mobility, protection, and reconnaissance capabilities for the Soviet Army and its allies.

Design and Features
The BRDM-2 was designed for speed and versatility, capable of operating on land and in water (amphibious). Its key features include:
Armament: Typically fitted with a 14.5 mm KPVT heavy machine gun and a 7.62 mm PKT coaxial machine gun.
Armor: Light armor (6–14 mm) that provides protection from small arms fire and shrapnel.
Mobility: Equipped with a 140 hp gasoline engine, allowing speeds up to 100 km/h on roads and 10 km/h in water.
Wheels: 4x4 with retractable auxiliary wheels for trench crossing.
Amphibious Capability: Built-in water jet propulsion and sealed hull for river and lake crossings.
Operational Use
The BRDM-2 was widely exported and used by numerous countries across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Its roles included:
Scouting enemy positions
Patrolling and border security
Target designation and communication
NBC (nuclear, biological, chemical) reconnaissance in specialized variants
It proved valuable in both conventional and guerrilla warfare due to its speed and maneuverability.
