Darren Raven is a design educator and National Teaching Fellow with over 20 years’ experience teaching across BA and MA levels. Their project Lecture Zine is an ongoing series of 12-page, visually engaging, often darkly humorous zines that reflect critically on design education. Shared daily on Instagram, the work is designed to provoke, support and challenge. They are committed to exploring alternative platforms for publishing and public pedagogy, using accessible, visual forms to bypass the limitations of traditional academic outlets. Themes include anti-design thinking, recuperation, radical pedagogy and confusion as a learning tool. Alongside this, they develop student-centred frameworks such as 10x10x100, which invite playful, personally relevant project choices, and they lead work on critical, values-led approaches to employability at MA level. Their teaching aims to create space for autonomy, complexity and resistance within art and design education, while addressing the real-world conditions creative graduates face.
