chung an is a natural dye and textile artist based in seoul, korea in samcheong-dong (bukchon).

chung an dyes traditional korean textile on the second floor of her studio, using mainly persimmon & charcoal dyes.

she selects textiles that are traditional to korea, such as sambe then begins the hand-dyeing process in spring over the course of months.

then using silhouettes of traditional hanbok & moon jars, she creates patterns/sews clothes that are both traditional yet contemporary.

chung-an spent time spanning over 20 years learning traditional korean crafts from masters. Korean 꽃꽂이 ( flower arrangement ), 다도 (tea ceremony) 복식/한복 (clothing/hanbok) spending over a decade learning craft hand sewing techniques which were used to restore/create royal hanboks.

she combined all her skills and training to begin her own brand named chungan over 15 years ago, where her love for natural dye, craft, art and cultural techniques are presented as artisan clothes that can be worn as cultural heirlooms. Each unique, each holding dyes and textile of korean earth/terroir, which designs that bridge the past, present and future with embellishments and patterns that carry chung-an's hand signatures.

her studio/atelier/retail shop is located in a beautiful historic alley behind Kukje Gallery next to Gyeongbokgung Palace, near the Hanok Village in Bukchon.
