In this premiere episode, we reveal the sea story of Sophia Matsas, Vice President of Marketing and Communications at Mystic Seaport Museum, as she shares the story that inspired this very documentary series. In October of 2023, as the newly promoted Vice President, Sophia found herself at the Museum's America and the Sea Award Gala listening to the acceptance speech of gala honoree, Admiral James Stavridis (USN, Ret). Sitting there in the audience listening to his words, she found a profound connection with her grandparents and their story of survival and refuge. An unlikely discovery that provoked feelings of acceptance, pride, and the realization of a full circle moment that changed her life forever.
