In 1986, two sacrificial pits were discovered at Sanxingdui. Inside was an incredible trove of bronze masks, heads, statues and even trees. They are thought to have been used as objects of worship.
Sanxingdui was a Bronze Age city that flourished 3,000-5,000 years ago in southwestern China, serving as the capital of the State of Shu. It is one of modern China's greatest archaeological finds.
