LOUD LOUD LOUD!! - This video doesn't give justice to just how loud these sirens are!!
To film this siren took some careful planning, as I filmed three on this day.
This is one of the GP series sirens made by Klaxon and is different from the ones at Broadmoor. At Broadmoor, the sirens used a HIGH-LOW-HIGH-LOW tone to signify the 'ALERT' phase, and just a mono-tone for the 'ALL CLEAR'.

WHY ARE THERE ESCAPE SIRENS?
There are nine sirens installed in surrounding towns and villages of The State Hospital of Carstairs. The sirens warn residents of a missing person from the hospital (or a possible escapee). Persons should remain in their homes and keep their children supervised. Schools have their own procedures, which is where a few of the sirens are located.
Patients at this psychiatric hospital are generally dangerous people who need specialist treatment and would be a danger to the public if they were treated in a standard hospital.
