Alan Gowen was a founding member of National Health in 1975 along with fellow keyboard player Dave Stewart and bassist Mont Campbell, sharing the composing between them. Phil Miller was also a founding member but initially not a writer. Here he reflects on why Gowen chose to leave the band in March 1977 (briefly staying on to help record the first studio album) after 18 months.
