Temporary Structure: US Swimming Trials Pool

Giant, purpose-built venues have their place, but temporary structures are also a viable way to create a venue for a specific event or short period of time, so that you can create an A+ event with the most cutting-edge and top-tier equipment and facilities, without having to invest in the long-term investment and commitment of a much more expensive, permanent facility.

One recent example of this is the US Olympic Trials Swimming Pool, which was setup in the Indianapolis Colts football stadium, for the ~week long event.

It's certainly a premium to do a project like this, because you're bringing things in and out, but these large venues are often sitting empty between major shows or sport seasons, so it's an opportunity to get more out of these giant empty structures that already have the seating and the roof and the sound system in place.

Some of the advantages of doing events this way would be that you're investing in the event itself, and the specific things you need for that window of time, not building a massive facility that has to live-on for decades afterwards.

As sports continue to grow, very few facilities can really host events like this US Swimming Trials event anyways.

So you have 2 options; continue bringing events back to 1 or 2 venues that actually can, and probably have hosted the event in the past, or do you want to bring it to different locations potentially every year or every few years.

There could be some advantages to moving it around, where you're able to show off your product to different markets, rather than having to force people to come to you.

You also get to build the latest and greatest, temporary facility for each year, which can have a gigantic seating capacity, rather than continually investing in upgrading oversized permanent facilities, which can get very expensive.

There are reasons why a permanent facility is a great choice as well, if you want to have a true home-base, and you can make the long-term investment in a much bigger vision for the future.

During the US Trials, the LA Olympic committee announced their venues, and sure enough, they also were proposing a pool in a football stadium, which after seeing this event, makes a lot of sense to me.
