On our way to Colorado to run the epic 'Imogene' and 'Black Bear' Passes, we decided to break up the long drive with a stop near Moab. The temperature in the valley was showing 105 degrees, so we looked for a break from the heat. This trail goes from about 4200 feet up to over 8600 feet in elevation to the La Sal Mountains. It is known by several names, including 'Thompson Canyon' or 'Hideout Canyon', and takes in part of the 'Kokopelli Trail'. You can run it as a loop in either direction. We elected to start from the Onion Creek Canyon to Castle Valley. Even in late July, Onion Creek still had water running in its many crossings . Once on top, the temps were in the 70’s!
