Mortician Explains: Funeral Home Gives Family A Brain Instead of Son's Clothing

I need to talk about this — because I’ve been tagged in this story nonstop, and people keep asking me the same thing:

Is this real?
Is this actually possible?

Unfortunately… yes.

In this video, I break down a lawsuit out of San Jose where a family alleges they were handed a bag they were told contained their son’s clothing — and it allegedly contained his brain.

I wish that wasn’t true. I wish this was misinformation. But this is an active lawsuit, and it raises some really uncomfortable questions about how remains and personal effects are handled after death.

This isn’t a hot take or a storytime. This is me explaining, from a mortuary science perspective, how something like this could happen, why it should never happen, and where the system broke down.
