Makoko SHOCKING Demolition into Luxury Development

I’m sure you’ve been following the story of Makoko’s demolition. This has been in the works for a few decades because the Lagos state government has been trying to get rid of this community for a while. Makoko is one of the most misunderstood coastal communities in the world. It has been in existence for decades and has housed generations since its inception. I spent a considerable amount of time in this community in 2025, so I feel like I’m in the right position to tell you about the unfortunate factors behind Makoko’s demolition, and how greed from the government is turning this community into a potential environmental disaster.
