If you are looking for a later model modern yacht at a fraction of average market cost, you must see this video.
Based on thirty years of boating experience and ten years of owning the original 1980 boat, from 2004 to 2006 Dessert First was completely rebuilt from keel to mast tip, a rebuild so extensive that the boat can now presented as a 2006 model.
The goal of the rebuild was to create the ideal Northwest cruising vessel for a couple and occasional guests. Its 43ft length is ideal for this goal and the seaworthiness of the Viking hull is legendary.
We are sadly parting with this boat because aging has said it’s time for us to “go ashore.”
If your goal is boating value for the dollars you spend, you owe it to yourself to take a moment and visually tour the indoor and outdoor livability of this boat. Then take a close look at its contemporary, top-quality engine features, navigational instrumentation, electrical system, and an extensive list of significant extras.
The living spaces lend themselves to full-time or part-time living aboard. The interior teak is finished to a luxurious degree you will not find anywhere else. There is no lower helm station to clutter the ambience. The aft cabin design allows a master suite larger than any other vessel of similar length.
The rebuild took advantage of the enormous advances from 2001 to 2005 in diesel technology, fuel efficiency and emission standards. The Yanmar 6LY-STP engines, rated at 440hp each, have only 770 engine hours. Their top speed is 24 knots, so they will easily achieve 16 knots at their optimum of 2400 rpm and are very efficient at their 1600 rpm displacement speed of 9.5 knots.
Similarly, the completely redesigned helm station took advantage of the enormous advances from 2000 to 2005 in interconnected boat electronics, computer capabilities and the concept of “the glass bridge” that is now standard
