This short video records the 3rd and 4th days of my journey to Norway by motorbike.
I spent my first night in Europe at a campsite near to the German-Danish border. The campsite was in a nice location and I was surrounded by nature. During the night, owls were calling, pine cones were dropping and bouncing off lower branches, or on to my tent before landing on the floor.
The following morning it was misty, with condensation on the tent and bike. I had to let my tent dry a bit, thankfully I had brought some drying cloths to quicken the process.
Eventually everything was stowed back in the top box and panniers, as well as my back pack.
I could now make my way back to the motorway to travel to my relatives in Denmark. Thankfully, because of the distance covered the day before, I had a relatively easier days riding.
I had one rest day at my cousins before heading for Sweden & Norway. The following day I was back on my bike travelling along the coast to Helsingor to catch the ferry. The ferry crosses over the narrowest section of the Øresund Strait between Helsingor and Helsingborg in Sweden.
The Øresund Strait is approx 2.5 miles across and the ferry only takes 20 minutes to cross it. I had not booked anything, I just turned up at the ferry port, rode up to the ticket office, bought my one way ticket. I think it cost about £17+/-.
Once in Helsingborg, I headed for the ‘E6’ motorway which would take me towards Gothenburg and Oslo. The 'E6' runs along the west coast of Sweden, before entering Norway.
After many hours heading north, I eventually turned on to the 'E143' which heads west. This road has many tunnels which eventually took me to the impressive Oslo fjord Tunnel. A tunnel that crosses between ‘Hurum’ and ‘Frogn’ in Norway, beneath the Oslo Fjord.
The tunnel is approximately 7.5 km long and reaches a depth of 134 meters below mean sea level. A very impressive piece of engineering, but my research shows that it was flooded in 2003 and again in 2008. Plus a couple of truck fires in 2006 and 2011. Thankfully nothing happened when I was using it!
By the time I had got through the tunnel, night was falling fast. I headed West and eventually ended up riding in the dark for a couple of hours before stopping in the town of Kongsberg.
It was late, I was very tired so I treated myself to a nights stay in the ‘Best Western Hotel’ in the town centre, which had underground parking for the bike.
