Trains at Perth station

In this video we see some trains at Perth station, the heart of Perth's impressively modern train network.

First we see some Transperth A Series EMU's utilizing the main platforms at surface level. These section is used by the Armadale/Thornlie, Fremantle and Midland lines as well as special event services. This section contains the Perth station building which was constructed in 1881. The station has been modified a number of times during the years although much of what we see today dates from the late 1980's when the station was refurbished with a new roof constructed. Platform 9 was constructed in 1992 as part of electrification of the Armadale line.

During the construction of the Perth Citylink urban renewal project the station underwent significant changes to relocate the Fremantle line tracks underground. This saw the western concourse & platforms west of Horseshoe bridged demolished and replaced with a new pedestrian underpass to link all of the station's platforms together. Platforms were also rearranged during this time.

After that we then head to the underground platforms where we see B Series EMU's on the Joondalup and Mandurah lines. The underground platforms opened in 2007 as part of construction of the Mandurah line. It is referred to in official timetables as being named Perth Underground and was separate from the main Perth station until the new underpass opened in 2013.

The platforms are numbered and used by the following services:

Platform 1 (underground): Joondalup line services.
Platform 2 (underground): Mandurah line services.
Platform 3: Australind services to Bunbury.
Platform 4: Thornlie line services.
Platform 5: Armadale line services.
Platform 6: Peak hour Armadale line services.
Platform 7: Fremantle line services.
Platform 8: Midland line services, plus P pattern Joondalup line services.
Platform 9: Allocated to the Midland line but used as a special services platform.
