I show you Barrio Cabañas, once a dangerous neighborhood in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, that has turned itself around. Non-residents rarely entered Cabañas as the state prison was located right at its entrance. For years, inmates escaped, the government blocked cell phone signals throughout the neighborhood, and violent crime was a major problem. Now with the state prison demolished and relocated, Cabañas is a lively neighborhood with a free outdoor gym, open-air Zumba classes, food stands, restaurants, shoe factory, and vibrant commerce.
