In this video, you will learn the step-by-step process of configuring stacking for the FS S5860 series 24-port enterprise network switches.
What is stacking? Stacking is a powerful feature that simplifies network management and expands capacity
by combining multiple physical switches into a single logical unit, all controlled via a single IP address.
The video demonstrates key configuration steps, including connecting the switches using 10G DAC cables,
accessing the CLI via the console port, and setting stacking attributes such as domain ID, member number, and VSL ports.
By the end, you'll see the successful stack formation, enabling efficient, high-performance network management.
Here is the network topology next comes the specific configuration steps, taking S5860-48SC as an example.
💡Step 1: Connect Two S5860 Switches.
Use a 10G DAC cable to connect the two switches via the 10G port and repeat the step to use another 10G DAC cable
to connect the two switches for stacking.
💡Step 2: Access to the CLI.
Connect the console port of the S5860-48SC switch to your computer via a console cable. Open SecureCRT software
and select "Quick Connect". Set the protocol to "Serial", choose COM7 for the USB port, and set the baud rate to 9600.
Disable Flow Control and click "Connect" to enter the CLI.
💡Step 3: Configure Stacking of S5860-48SC (Switch-1)
Set the stacking attributes of switch-1. Assign the domain ID as 100 and stacking member number as 1.
Then, set the stacking member priority to 200, making it the Master based on this priority.
Configure the switch description, CRC error checking for the VSL port, and VSL interfaces.
Finally, access the VSL port view and designate ports 1 and 2 as stacking member ports.
💡Step 4: Configure Stacking of S5860-48SC (Switch-2)
Connect the console port of Switch-2 and follow the same configuration steps as for Switch-1.
Set the stacking attributes, then switch the operating mode from standalone to stacking mode.
💡Step 5: Show Stacking Results on Switch-1
The console port connection needs to be switched to Switch-1, and show the stacking configuration information on Switch-1.
Here the stack has been formed, enjoying the benefits they provide.
