Train Cab Ride NL / Eastbound Sprinter / Apeldoorn - Deventer - Almelo / SNG Sprinter / May 2023

Hi everyone! It's been two weeks since the last video. Time for a brand new one! This time after many requests a video of a sprinter ride. And also the first time on my channel for the route Deventer - Almelo. That route was recently added to my route knowledge. Have a good ride!

0:00 Apeldoorn
After the video introduction we start our ride in Apeldoorn. In the introduction you've seen a picture of me with Niek and Thijs from Het Derde Spoor. They interviewed me today between rides.

On departure at Apeldoorn we stay on the left track until Apeldoorn aansluiting. There we change to the right track after which we approach the speed sign for 130km/h. On the right ride you see the the line to Zutphen check out.

Because we're a Sprinter service we make stops on all stations on the route.

7:05 Temporary Speed Limit
There's still a speed limit in place here because of unguarded level crossings used by farmers with heavy equipment. Until there's an alternative way for the farmer to reach his land the speed limit will be in place. This after a deadly train accident a few years ago in Hooghalen on a level crossing like this.

12:41 (IJsselspoorbrug) Deventer
Arrival at Deventer station. Before entering the station we first pass over the IJsselspoorbrug. A lovely view on Deventer from here. Just before Deventer the line from Zwolle in joining in at the left side.

On arrival in Deventer you see passengers waiting for the train. There's some work that needs to be done when it comes to passenger information here. By rule I should've stopped the train at the stop board with number 4. But passengers would've been running after our train in that case. The stopping place for the train is also mentioned to passengers, but not on the right screen in this case. Issue reported.

17:01 ATB Track Failure
The ATB signal in the tracks is faulty. Therefor we must drive on sight until the next main light signal that allows a higher speed again. Issue was already known by the train dispatcher.

Another line towards Zutphen is checking out on the right side.

20:31 Deventer Colmschate

28:36 Holten
You see that stretched S sign on the right side? This is sign that tells the driver to start slowing down when traveling on full speed and in need to stop at the next station. Signs like this can be found at most station where you can pass through with a speed higher than 70km/h.

This is a famous spotter location I was told.

34:05 Rijssen
Back to 120km/h here because of the somewhat sharp turns. The ATB won't change speed. It can only give the speed 40, 60, 80, 130 and 140km/h to the driver. For speeds in between a higher setting is will active. That's why ATB is just a help for the driver. The driver must know the route before being allowed to drive on it.

Entering the Wierden area. Just before a arrive at the station you'll see another line coming in from Zwolle on the left side.

43:42 Spoorbrug Twentekanaal
Last bridge before we'll arrive at our final stop!

44:09 Almelo
Before entering Almelo station we'll be brought back to 40km/h because we need to enter the station via junctions that allow no higher speed than that. Since we're already not driving on full speed we'll be traveling on that lower speed for a while.
