“Himamaylan: A Kagitingan Film” in celebration of Independence Day on June 12, 2021.
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, communist insurgents threatens government response in distributing relief to remote communities in the country. The film tells the true story of Philippine Army soldiers in Himamaylan Town in Negros Island, Philippines ensuring the success of government efforts during the pandemic.
The Social Amelioration Program or SAP is a form of cash assistance distributed to Filipinos who are unable to continue their livelihood because of the pandemic. In remote communities all over the country, communist insurgents known as the NPAs threaten government workers to disrupt the distribution of this assistance.
A platoon from the Army's 94th Infantry Battalion was tasked to address the threat and ensure the delivery of government relief. They faced-off in an upland village known as Carabalan where more than 50 NPAs where driven away by only 20 Army Troopers. Despite incurring casualties, the gallant actions of these soldiers ensured the arrival of much needed relief to Filipinos greatly affected by the pandemic.
