Known for more than just burgers, Papa’s Smashies is a pop-up concept turned full time for Piripi Bartrum Baker. Starting in his drive way one short year ago, the virality of his humble smash burger had to evolve rapidly.
Today, you can find Piripi and his incredible team at 15 Sandyford Street in Sydenham, Christchurch parked up for service on Thursday and Fridays from 4pm-8pm.
The ethos Piripi carries in his craft is proudly represented through Manaakitanga, a Māori principle that stands for hospitality, kindness, generosity, support.
Honouring his past as a research assistant and writer at Te Wānanga Ihorangi, a registered charitable trust committed to the reclamation, preservation, and revitalisation of te reo Māori in Aotearoa; the mission to connect with community remains the same; but this time, with a cheese burger in hand.
Lastly, a special shoutout to our executive producer for this project Ben Moulson for spending weeks on the front and back end of this production, ensuring the narrative was honoured.
