Ontario RTAK-II: Big Everything - Blade, Weight, Value

The Ontario RTAK-II is a lot of steel for the money. The knife is a full tang design made from 1095 steel. It features a full flat ground drop point blade, this is a good practical blade design which I like a lot. Handle scales are canvas micarta and in keeping with the knife, they are big. Lots of room for larger hands, however those with smaller hands may find the handle thickness a problem.
In typical Ontario fashion the sheath is adequate and nothing more. It would be nice if they put a bit more effort in here. The design is OK, but if it was made from higher grade materials it would be so much better. Even if this raised the price a few dollars I think most people would be happy to pay for that quality. A big positive is that it is ambidextrous.
For my purposes this knife is perhaps a bit too large and heavy to get a lot of use. For this reason other knives seem to be the ones thrown in the pack on a regular basis. However, if size and weight are no problem for you, this blade is worth checking out.
