In this videos we are going to The Principles of Inheritance in Genetics were first described by Gregor Mendel, who conducted experiments on pea plants. His work led to the formulation of Mendelian Genetics, which consists of three key principles:
1. Law of Dominance
When two organisms with different traits are crossed, only one trait (dominant) appears in the offspring, while the other (recessive) is masked.
Example: In pea plants, crossing a pure tall (TT) and a pure short (tt) plant results in tall offspring (Tt), as the tall trait is dominant.
2. Law of Segregation
Each organism has two alleles for a trait, which separate (segregate) during gamete formation.
Offspring receive one allele from each parent.
Example: A heterozygous tall plant (Tt) can pass either T or t to its offspring.
3. Law of Independent Assortment #education #biology #neet #tnqguru #exam
Genes for different traits assort independently of one another during gamete formation, as long as they are not linked.
Example: The inheritance of flower color does not affect the inheritance of plant height.
These principles form the foundation of classical genetics and help explain how traits are passed from one generation to the next. Do you need more details or examples?
