Let’s talk about something I see all the time in foiling—people forcing their turns.
If you’re pumping out of every turn, it’s a sign that something’s off. Not only does it break up the flow, but it’s also wasting your energy.
Here’s the thing: if you need to pump constantly, you’re not tapping into the natural power of the wave. Instead of riding the wave and using the energy it provides, you’re forcing it.
The secret? There’s always enough energy in the wave—you just have to find it and use it. Most people miss the power zone, and that’s when the pumping starts.
As for me, unless I’m hitting a section that requires extra speed or jumping onto another wave, I’m not pumping. I’m staying in the power zone, using the natural energy from my turns to keep me flowing smoothly.
It’s not only more efficient—it looks and feels way better.
Here’s how you get it right:
Ride in the power zone, not outside of it
Don’t force your turns—let the wave work for you
