Extreme storm hits Switzerland today! Rare snow, Zermatt cut off from the outside world

The cantons of Valais, Ticino and the Bernese Oberland are hit by severe weather, some of which is accompanied by heavy snowfall. The railway line between Visp and Zermatt is currently cut off.

The Simplon Pass, the Simplon Tunnel and the Great Saint Bernard Pass are closed. Car transport on the Lötschberg between Kandersteg and Goppenstein has been reopened.
