Before using this way, I wasted a considerable amount of time fitting the top or back joint. I learned this simple technique from a carpenter with more than 40 years of experience (he is near to retire). You only need your shooting board, a ruler, and a good plane. I think that, the simpler, the better, and this technique is very effective. In fact, when you use this way, the difficulty resides in make it wrong.
