133. Simple DIY - working with corrugated cardboard - part 1

In this video, I'll show you how I make corrugated cardboard both thicker and stronger by gluing layers in place. Each successive layer has the corrugations running perpendicular to the corrugations in the proceeding layer. I used Super 77 spray adhesive to hold the layers together although many other kinds of glue would work.

I'll show you how strong 5 layers is compared to just a single layer. For the cardboard I was using, 5 layers produced a piece about 1/2" thick. To make pieces even thicker, just continue to add more layers.

Once I finished this video, it occurred to me that the number of layers used should probably be an even number so that the finished piece has the same number of corrugations running in the same direction. For example, a 6 layer piece would have 3 layers with the corrugations running in one direction and 3 other layers with the corrugations running perpendicular. This combination should provide equal strength against bending.

There is so much that can be done with cardboard of all types; not just corrugated cardboard. And because free cardboard from the recycle bin is basically endless, that leads to nearly endless possibilities for projects and ideas that can be explored.
