At camp, some children might need extra help, and you may be asked to be a 1 on 1 buddy. This is a wonderful chance to make sure all children can join in and hear the Gospel.
In this video, we’ll share tips for church leaders and young volunteers on how to help every child at camp, especially those with different abilities.
Topics Discussed in This Video:
Understanding the role of a 1 on 1 buddy
Building positive relationships with children
Encouraging group play and involvement
Using visual schedules and sensory toys
Debriefing with children, parents, and coordinators
Key Tips:
1. Don’t Assume: Every child is unique. Focus on what they can do.
2. Ask for Help: Talk to the child and their parents to understand their needs.
3. Mingle, Don’t Single: Help the child join group activities and connect with others.
4. Be Prepared: Use visual schedules and have sensory toys ready.
5. Debrief: Check in with the child, parents, and coordinators to improve each day.
Remember, you don’t need to be an expert, just be ready to ask how you can help. By doing this, you’ll be following the example of Christ!
