This talk examines AN 6.68 (Enjoying Company) and SN 35.63 (Migajāla Sutta) to clarify what the Buddha meant by dwelling alone and dwelling with a second. It shows why physical solitude is necessary but not sufficient, how craving functions as “company,” and why enjoyment of association obstructs seeing the mind, that is a pre-requisite for the Right View and liberation.
What we seek relief from when we look for company, how internal seclusion develops, and how external seclusion supports, but does not guarantee, the path.
